YOUR MAD GUIDE
11 MAD LEADERSHIP PRINCIPLES
THAT GOES BEYOND THE ABILITY TO SUSTAIN
Inner awareness #1. THE SUCCESS OF AN INTERVENTION IS DEPENDENT OF THE INNER ENVIRONMENT OF THE INTERVENOR / BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE. MIT (U-Theory by Otto Sharmer) and Gandhi can’t both be wrong. Any business or organisation developed will only be as “good” as the leader’s inner space. Let your leadership and business development inspire and inform each other, as the interwoven journeys they are.

Outer Awareness #2. Understand the problem. THE BETTER YOU UNDERSTAND THE ROOT CAUSES & HAVE A CLEAR VISION, THE MORE EFFICIENT SOLUTIONS YOU CAN DESIGN, and the better you can qualify and capture emerging opportunities. Addressing symptoms is putting out superficial fires, meanwhile the roots are still burning. This goes for Products and Services as well as Interventions.
What is the problem you are looking to solve? Dig beneath the surface; what’s the root causes of the problem? (Why, Why, Why, Why, Why) - make sure to address the root, not the symptoms!
What is your MAD Vision? That dream you are not prepared to let go of yet.

Action #4. WHAT YOU MEASURE IS WHAT YOU GET. Our brains love the kick of ticking boxes, fulfilling predetermined outcomes. If we narrow our potential to this - we execute linearly (coevalent to 1* degree or so), versus explore 360* degrees around us - and practically kill the ability to discover new insights (and thus all impact and revenue that would follow). Dare to measure what truly matters; How well you are addressing root causes, fulfilling your mission and delivering on your vision? Build, measure, learn is great - just don’t forget to internalize and make sure the progress aligned with your values. It’s (somewhat) easy to climb quickly up the ladder, to then realize it was leaning on the wrong wall. Don’t measure speed up the ladder - explore and ensure the wall! + prototype test, take action

Soft Launch! What initial customers will be excited to be first (and think of a potentially bumpy beta experience as thrilling instead of enoying)? How can you engage future partners to start build a sense of commitment and ownership already now?
Calibrate MAD Metrics (for inspiration: How do you Unlock Insight, Catalyze Impact and Ensure Sustainable Revenue) to be able to capture learnings and measure success! What you measure is what you get - so make sure that what you measure is what truly matters for you!

Unity #3. CULTIVATE ABUNDANT ECOSYSTEMS. Billions of years of Evolution can’t be wrong. Learn from nature and seek symbiosis; how can you nourish an ecosystem that expands the collective market through turning everything on its head; someone's waste is your resource, and vice versa. Don’t let yourself be fooled and limited by a predefined market that narrows your potential win to someone else's loss. Craft solutions that open up new markets and win-win-win symbiotic partnerships. Symbiosis creates resilience, crucial for the ever changing terrain of tomorrow. We won't solve today's challenges with the same mindset that created them, and even less so the challenges of tomorrow. This calls for a radical shift of paradigm; the co-creation of narrative that is not defined by any single discipline, industry, nation or elite - but by the masses, leveraging unique experiences of radically diverse perspectives. Impact is multiplied by diversity.
EXER: Invite to test
What waste from others can you leverage as a resource? And vise verse; What is a “waste” or byproduct from your business, that could be a resources for an overlooked segment (i.e. a segment that complements your “core customer”)?
"Loop back" #5. LIFELONG (UN)LEARNING. In a world of exponential change, the value of learning and unlearning increases by the second. Thus, if the coming 100 years will be equal to 20 000 years (in accordance to e.g. Singularity University)- your lifelong learning will have the opportunity to continuously accelerate if you leverage the neurological growth hack of turning fear of the unknown into curiosity to explore. We won't solve today's challenges with the same mindset that created them.
EXER: Broaden your perspectives; Explore new outlets. How can you learn from others?
Research: See the Overlooked and explore “best practices” beyond industries, disciplines and geographies. What ideas and solutions are already out there that you can use and leverage?
Empathize: Step into the shoes of your “beneficiary”/customer: What does your day look like? How do you feel? What do you do? Explore and test beyond your assumptions.
