All MAD Challenges depart from local MAD Change makers. These leaders engage in and validate each step of the emerging innovation process. In this MAD Initiative, Ana Hidalgo, CEO at Lab XXI, is the lead MAD Entrepreneur.

INITIATIVE BACKGROUND
Working with marginalized youth, seeking innovative ways to equip them for a better future, Ana has first hand seen how the refugee influx from Venezuela fuels many of the societal challenges already faced by marginalized youth in Quito, Ecuador; Getting caught in the unofficial labour market and a downward spiral where sexual abuse, micro trafficking of drugs, criminal recruitment and human rights violations is all too common.

INITIATIVE AMBITION
The MAD Initiative in Ecuador aims to explore and pilot innovative ways of transforming what can be traditionally viewed as a refugee crisis into an social development opportunity through equipping teachers with the tools to better Meet, Include and Support refugee youth together with their fellow students; Striving for Mutual Integration and value creation. Enabling a platform for future generations of Social Entrepreneurs to grow from.

INTENTIONS BEYOND THE INITIATIVE
Through collaboration with local, national and international institutions and organisations, the MAD intention is for Ana and her team to be able to share and replicate key findings and insights across and beyond Ecuador. Collectively showing a Thought Leadership and contributing with insights to a global challenge that is only forecasted to grow as migration continues to rise as a consequense of Climate Change, Political Instability and more. SImply a truly MAD case.
